Course Overview

There is presently a boat builder and repairer on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).

The Certificate III in Marine Craft Construction equips students to work on a variety of boat building projects. You will receive training in a variety of areas related to the boat building industry, including studying plans and specifications, creating templates and scale plans for hull section fabrication and cutting, assembling boat shells and ship hull sections, and installing masts, frames, decking, fittings, machinery, shafts, and safety gear. Graduates will work in the marine craft industry as skilled tradespeople.

Course Requirements

  1. This program includes a mandatory 360-hour vocational placement.

  2. Academic eligibility: Completion of Australian Year 10 or an equivalent overseas qualification.

  3. Provide proof of English language proficiency.

Accepted tests include IELTS, PTE, and similar assessments. For IELTS, a minimum overall score of 6.0 with no individual band below 5.5 is required, and the test results must be valid within two years at the time of the visa application. Some educational institutions also offer an in-house English Placement Test to fulfill the language entry requirements.

Exemptions apply if:
– The applicant holds a passport from the UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, or the Republic of Ireland.
– They are enrolled in a registered school course, a standalone English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS), a course delivered in a language other than English, or a registered postgraduate research program.
– They have completed at least five years of education in English in any of the following countries: Australia, UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, or the Republic of Ireland.
