Course Overview
Social Work programs are offered at both Bachelor and Master’s levels. The Bachelor of Social Work is a 4-year course, while the Master of Social Work is a 2-year advanced postgraduate qualification that builds on the knowledge and experiences students bring with them.
The Bachelor program is open to individuals who have completed at least secondary education in their home country. The Master of Social Work is tailored for graduates with a background in social and behavioural sciences. Both programs aim to equip students to make a positive impact as professional social workers, contributing to individuals and communities.
These programs cultivate reflective and analytical practitioners, providing students with the skills and knowledge to engage in social action, counselling, community development, policy analysis, advocacy, and research, working with individuals and groups for social change.
The Bachelor or Master of Social Work focuses on developing practical competencies in areas such as:
- Advanced social research
- Effective engagement with Aboriginal communities
- Ethical social work practices in complex situations
- Mental health and social work
- Addressing challenges, critiques, and change for children, youth, and families
Course Requirements
Bachelor Entry Requirements:
- Completion of Australian Year 12 or an equivalent secondary education from overseas.
- Evidence of English language proficiency.
- IELTS, PTE, etc. (IELTS: minimum score of 7.0 in all bands). The test result must be valid within 2 years at the time of the visa application.
- Exemptions apply if:
- You hold a passport from the UK, USA, Canada, NZ, or the Republic of Ireland.
- You are enrolled in a principal course of study that is a registered school course, a standalone English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS), a course delivered in a language other than English, or a registered postgraduate research course.
- You have completed at least 5 years of study in English in one or more of the following countries: Australia, UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, or the Republic of Ireland.
Master’s Entry Requirements:
- Applicants must hold a relevant 3-year Bachelor degree (AQF Level 7) that includes at least one year of full-time studies in social sciences (study of the individual and society).
- Evidence of English language proficiency.
