This program equips students with the skills and knowledge required to teach in early childhood, primary, or secondary education settings. Students begin with a foundational first year, followed by specialization in either primary or secondary education. As part of the course, students will complete practice placements in Australian primary or secondary schools, where they will observe and participate in teaching, engage in practice teaching, and undertake community field studies.
The course can be pursued at both Bachelor and Master’s levels. The Master’s program can be completed in as little as 18 months at select universities across Australia. The Bachelor of Education is accredited by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL), which is the designated assessing authority for the teaching profession by the Department of Home Affairs. Upon completing an accredited course, students can obtain a full skills assessment without needing additional work experience through the accredited pathway.
This is particularly significant because early childhood (pre-primary school) teachers and secondary school teachers are listed on the Medium to Long Term Skilled Shortage List (MLTSSL). Consequently, this occupation’s inclusion on the MLTSSL, combined with the accredited pathway for skills assessment, opens up the opportunity to apply for general skilled migration visas such as:
